Brief
We were tasked with sourcing a destination and devising a unique and memorable itinerary for a Company Incentive Trip to reward staff for exceeding their annual targets and for all their hard work in 2024.
The destination needed to be approx. 2 hours flight from London and within a reasonable budget to cover a 3 nights programme for 18 people.
Solution
After exploring multiple cities across Europe, Budapest was a firm favourite due to it’s flight duration and frequency from London airports, along with the exciting array of activities and sights to explore there. We arranged a 3 night stay at 4* The Continental Hotel Budapest which was ideally located in the party district, close to historical sights and within walking distance of the Danube River. This hotel featured great meeting spaces required for the group on the first day.
Following a very smooth 2.5 hour flight from Heathrow to Budapest, the group arrived at the hotel late on Thursday evening, greeted with a relaxed welcome drinks and nibbles at the Hotel Bar. As there was a jam-packed 3 days ahead, the group headed for bed.
Feeling fresh after a good sleep and hearty breakfast, the group met for a morning meeting in the hotel followed by an informal lunch at a cool pop-up Street Food market called Karavan. That afternoon we arranged an I-pad City Rally where the group split into 3 teams and were set challenges and tasks around the city. This was a great way of learning about Budapest and seeing all the sights – it was highly competitive too! That evening we arranged a Riksa Tour (Budapest’s version of a Tuk Tuk) to the First Strudel House of Pest where we feasted on a traditional Hungarian dinner accompanied by an interactive demonstration of how they make the different types of Strudel. We then took the group to two prestigious Rooftop Bars in the City - High Note Sky Bar, Liz & Chain Bar where they enjoyed drinks while soaking in the beautiful architecture of the City.
On Saturday we opted to take the group out of Budapest City and headed to the beautiful Hungarian countryside, just under 1 hour away. There was a local Cheese & Wine festival called The Etyek Piknik that luckily coincided with our trip dates, so we spent the morning exploring and sampling all the wonderful local produce on offer. We arranged a stunning lunch overlooking the vineyards and enjoyed the music played by the local bands. That evening we arranged an exhilarating Speed Boat Cruise on the Danube followed by a delicious 3 course dinner at the Twenty Six Restaurant. We couldn’t visit Budapest without visiting the infamous Ruin Bars, so arranged post-dinner drinks for the group to enjoy there.
After checking out of the hotel on Sunday morning we organised a variety of activities located in and around The City Park for the group to choose from including; The Széchenyi Thermal Baths, The Sound Dome, Balloonfly and Electric Bus Tour. The group enjoyed their activities and met for a farewell lunch at the park’s Lakeside restaurant called Robinsons before departing for their flight back to London.
We’d highly recommend Budapest as a Incentive or Event Destination as it really does have a great mix of crowd pleasing activities, gastronomy, architecture and historical sights along with fantastic hotels and event spaces, all without breaking the bank!
