We are great believers that ‘Experience is Everything’ with a commonly used quote in the Rockitfish office being ‘people will forget what you said, they’ll forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel’.
Whatever the event, whether it is a pop up, product launch, summer party, conference, exhibition, they are all important to our clients and to us. Therefore, we’re always thinking of ways to maximise impact. To do this you need to think about the guests journey and what impact you want the event to have upon the guests. Bringing in elements of interactivity is one way of making the event more unique and impactful for your guests.
Interactivity touchpoints come in many forms, engaging and enlightening your senses – which could be through taste, smell, feel, sight or sound. Below are a selection of ways to stimulate the senses.
Smell; The smell of rose petals floating around the room for a summer-based event, bringing the essence of nature into an indoor space.
You could enjoy your own edible fragrance an experience you can smell and taste – enjoy the playful side of perfume where you will be guided by a trained perfumer who can help you choose your perfect flavour.
Taste; A personalised speciality cocktail of the night could be created to celebrate a brand both through bespoke name and use of brand colours, keeping that at the forefront of your guests’ minds.
Bring out your playful side with tasty edible bubbles that cascade tasty into the air. Allow guests to let out their inner child or in some cases show you who the competitive ones in the are and try and catch as many bubbles or guess the flavours.
Sight; You could have a digital wall where guests can share their thoughts or wishes for the future and to allow their messages to float digitally around the room.
Lighting can transform a space and can be used to bring out a specific feeling or mood to an area – blues can symbolise tranquillity and could bring a calming presence to a chill out zone or you could use red strobe lights to bring an element of drama to a space.
Bring in projection mapping to liven up a space and digitally display an image or video on surfaces that may otherwise be bland. For a product launch party you could bring the new product to life by projecting it on different pillars around the room. This experience can be powerful and impactful as well as emotive and can stops guests in their tracks.
Sound; Creation of a bespoke playlist or specific song that means something to the company which could be played upon guests arrival.
As your guests enter the room they are transcended into the event and theme through sound bites that start the guests on their explorative journey the moment they enter the room – it could be sounds of lion cubs playing and other African wildlife that immerse guests into a safari theme.
Touch; Capture your guests attention and allow them to interact physically this could be through a physical coordination snatch or catch game against the clock, challenging guests’ reaction time, speed and agility.
You could bring elements of the room to life using technology that allows guests to digitally move around sea life that is projected on the walls at an under the sea themed party.
Interactive touchpoints can also evoke emotional responses from guests that can well surpass the life of the event itself and leave lasting impressions which they will then associate back to the event. Bringing in elements that can create emotive responses through the senses can be integral to creating lasting memories.
For example; the smell of cinnamon at a winter party may make the guests think of Christmas and fill them with warming memories of that time of year. Or you may have an event about helping people feel empowered in the workplace where guests will engage in a workshop that uses upbeat music, guests will leave feeling empowered and when they hear that music again will be reminded of that time and the feeling they had.
These interactive touchpoints are an effective way to enhance guest connection with an experience. The event may be a summer party where the purpose is for guests to de-stress from the daily pressures in their life, or celebrate a company milestone. Whatever the occasion may be, the more interactive and fun for the audience, the better the guest’s experience and all the more memorable, which all helps to achieve the goal of the event.
An event is a limited amount of time, meaning you have a limited window in which you can make an impact or impression. Let your creativity and ideas go wild, the possibilities are limitless. Make an impact and stand out from the crowd.
