If you say Alicante it normally brings to mind hen and stag parties. But what if we told you there’s another side to Alicante which is much more sophisticated.

Last September we organised an event where our clients and I stayed at a gorgeous adults-only property, with stunning views of the mountains and Guadalest village. There are 35 “cabins”, embedded into the scenery – all of them enjoying this impressive view; featuring double bedroom, bathroom and casual seating area. Some are higher categories than others and even feature their own swimming pool. You won’t miss out if yours doesn’t include the pool though, as the main swimming pool for the hotel is a sight to behold! Next to the pool are plenty of sun loungers and a pool-side bar. But our favourite part of the property has to be the hidden spa which offers a full walk-through experience with sauna, steam, flotation room and treatments.

The hotel feels like it’s split into three sections, staggered down the mountain. Reception and car park in the middle, bedrooms, pool and spa below and at the top a beautiful terrace area with viewing platform that leads on to the restaurant and event spaces. You’ll have to get used to a few steps if staying at this property and may get a little out of breath walking from place to place, but you’ll be surrounded by nature. Enjoy walking through pathways lined with olive and fruit trees, herb gardens and the sound of birds (which sometimes makes you think there’s actually hidden speakers in the bushes). If more your style, you can be ferried around by golf buggy!

Whilst it is a property that you could easily while away many days at, it is still worth exploring the surrounding area – particularly a trip down to the sea for sailing or kayaking followed by dinner and drinks at L’Olleta Club del Mar. This seafood and Mediterranean restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere with views of the beach and the island of L’Olla. Embrace the concept of “picar” with a family style sharing menu of small bites. This family style of eating is fitting since Pepa and her brother Vicente have taken the restaurant over from their parents, continuing the family legacy.

If food is a priority when travelling (which we imagine it is for most) then do try and get a seat at Michelin starred restaurant El Xato in the pretty town of La Nucia. This restaurant has been run by the same family for five generations and can be hired exclusively on certain days if you want to take it over for a special event. The tasting menu is certainly unique, so you will need to be a little adventurous – but since this restaurant has been running successfully for five generations we think it’s worth taking a little risk! We would go back for the dessert alone!

Our client is still talking about what an impressive hotel and location it was, perfect for when you want to take a group away and get them to switch off from distractions. You can’t help but relax here.
