Nestled in the picturesque landscape of southern Italy, Sorrento is a corporate retreat destination that captivates visitors with its rich history, stunning scenery, and vibrant culture. I had the pleasure of being invited and hosted by one of our hotel groups so that I could get a taste of these wonders for myself.
Before delving into the details of the itinerary they had planned for us, I think it’s worth taking a glimpse into Sorrento's past. Dating back to ancient times, Sorrento has been inhabited by various civilizations, including the Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines. Its strategic location overlooking the Bay of Naples made it a thriving hub for trade and commerce. Over the centuries, Sorrento has evolved into a delightful blend of old-world charm and modern elegance. Its narrow cobblestone streets are lined with colourful buildings and enhanced with beautiful cascading bougainvillea, while its cliffside offers panoramic views of the sapphire sea and green and yellow landscapes. A real touchpoint for many different types of travellers.
Day 1: Pompeii's Secrets
Upon our arrival in Sorrento, we were greeted with warm Italian hospitality at the Hilton Sorrento Palace, a luxury property situated on a cliff side with stunning views of Mount Vesuvius. After settling in, we embarked on our first adventure: a visit to the ancient city of Pompeii. Stepping back in time, we wandered through the well-preserved ruins, marveling at the remnants of an ancient civilization frozen in time.
Following our exploration, we indulged in a delightful lunch at a local vineyard, savoring the flavors of traditional Italian cuisine paired with fine wines. As the sun began to set, we ended our day with dinner at a charming family-run restaurant, where we were treated to authentic dishes bursting with local flavors.
Day 2: Discovering the Beauty of the Amalfi Coast
The following morning, we set out to explore the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its rugged cliffs and picturesque villages. From the winding coastal roads, we marveled at panoramic views of the shimmering Mediterranean Sea and the colorful villages perched precariously on the cliffs below.
After a morning of exploration, we ascended to the highest town in Sorrento, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch overlooking the stunning vistas below. With our appetites sated, we returned to the Hilton Sorrento Palace for an afternoon of free time, during which we lounged by the pool and indulged in the hotel's luxurious amenities.
As the day drew to a close, we gathered for a sumptuous dinner, where we toasted to new friendships forged and memories made against the backdrop of Sorrento's timeless beauty.
Day 3: A Sweet Farewell
On our final morning in Sorrento, we bid farewell to this enchanting destination with a bittersweet mix of nostalgia and anticipation for future adventures. Before departing, we savored one last taste of Sorrento's culinary delights, enjoying coffee, cake, and lemon sorbet under the hotel's own lemon and orange trees—a fitting end to our unforgettable journey.
As we embarked on our journey homeward, Sorrento remained etched in our memories, a place where history, beauty, and hospitality converge to create an experience unlike any other. Until we meet again, Sorrento, grazie mille for the memories.
